Session: Shining Our Light Keynote
Four of our Occupational Health Nurse colleagues have been invited to speak to their own OHN experiences, challenges and aspirations.
Uzoamaka Amuzaat, RN, BN CPMHN (C) - Uzo Amuzat is a Nigerian Canadian Registered Nurse with over 12 years experience in Nursing that spans across difference areas of care across two continents. Following her Nursing graduation, Uzo gained admission to midwifery school to be a Registered midwife. During that same period, she was hired part-time by Keeji Technical Services, an indigenous oil and gas company in Nigeria to work as an Occupational Health Nurse. She says that it was a great honour to be known as one of the pioneers in occupational health services with that company. She spent three years wit them advancing occupational health and safety and wellness, until her relocation to Canada with her husband in 2010. Uzo is currently a student at MacEwen University, and in the process of acquiring her occupational health nursing certificate.
Brendan Webster, BN RN COHN(C) CRSP - Brendan earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Calgary and an Occupation Health Nursing Certificate from BCIT. He’s a Certified Occupational Health Nurse through the Canadian Nurses Association and a Canadian Registered Safety Profession. He has over eight year’s occupational health nursing experience in construction and education industries, developing and implementing occupational health and safety programs. In his current roles as Networking Coordinator on the AOHNA Executive and Chair of the Mentorship Task Group, Brendan has had the pleasure of working with an extremely dedicated group of professionals to build networking and mentorship capacity within the association.
Connie Pietrzyk, RN BScN OHNC - Connie is the OHN Manager for the Alberta Health Services Workplace Health and Safety Department in the Edmonton Zone. Connie has been with Alberta Health Services for 17 years. She has her RN with her BScN and her OHN Certification. She manages a team of 14 OHNs and 3 Admins that support 35,000 plus AHS Employees in the Edmonton Zone. Connie will share her challenges, experiences and inspirations, after 17 years of being an OHN in a Health Care Setting for Canada’s first and largest provincewide, fully-integrated Health system.
Roxanne McKendry, RN BN COHN(C) CRSP - Roxanne’s occupational health nursing career began in 1992 and has spanned the meat processing industry, retail grocery sales, a national railway company, healthcare and now consulting under her company, Lexicon Health & Safety Solutions. Roxanne is a passionate advocate for occupational health nursing and was proud to receive the COHNA-ACIIST Award of Excellence in 2016 and the title of 2015 Safety Leader of the Year by the Canadian Occupational Safety (COS) magazine.
